Emiratis have seen massive development in living standards and prosperity in the 45 years since six emirates came together to form a country called United Arab Emirates. A seventh emirate joined the union a few months later. The country celebrated its 45th anniversary of its formation on 2 December 2016. We look at how the media has covered the National Day celebrations and how citizens took to social media to celebrate the occasion.
We recorded nearly 295,000 posts on various social media channels on this occasion.
46% of social media posts on the National Day came from outside UAE, primarily from neighbouring arab countries with Saudi Arabia leading with 17% of posts. It is also interesting to see 9% of posts, over 26,000 coming from USA.
